Now a second generation farm, Apple Creek Farm was established in 1985 in Bowdoinham, Maine. Apple Creek Farm has been raising sheep for meat, wool, and breed stock. Our flock breeds have changed and mixed over the years but are currently made up of pure bred Romneys, pure bred Oxfords, pure bred Dorsets, and, the majority of which are, Romney/Cheviot crosses. We also have been raising beef cows since 2002 - Hereford and Black and Red Angus. All animals are grass based and are rotationally grazed on our farm for the benefit of the animals and land. The free-range hens have access to the entire farm where they find all kinds of bugs, grubs, grasses, and clover to eat. The flock is made up of Bantam, Araucana, Barred Rock, and Red Star hens.
All animals are raised with the utmost care for their health, keeping them free of hormones and antibiotics, providing them quality pastures and hay. Likewise the land is cared for in a similar manner. Additionally we harvest firewood and timber from our land using a sustainable model.
In 2013 we are applying for organic certification our hayfields and pastures. This will allow use to begin raising organic beef and lamb as well as bringing already certified goats and chickens from our partner farm Bacon Brook Farmstead in Unity, Maine.
We raise grass-fed lamb and beef, free-roaming, adventurous laying hens, and broilers. Farming in Bowdoinham Maine since 1985, the farm is run by father and son - Pete and Jake Galle. Apple Creek Farm also sells raw wool, felted wares, lambskins, and occasionally breed stock.
