The Sonoma Gravenstein ripens in late July, making it one of the first apples in North America ready for market. It is a squat, irregularly shaped apple with a very short stem that comes in a variety of colors. The Gravenstein is known for its all-purpose versatility as a terrific eating, sauce and pie apple. The apple has a crisp and juicy texture and a flavor that is aromatic and full of old-fashioned, sweet and tart flavor. Gravensteins are in danger of becoming broadly extinct because of many reasons, the most observable of which is their difficulty to harvest. Paul has been farming orchards for over thirty years in Sonoma County and has transitioned many from conventionally farmed properties to organically farmed properties. Our family and crew work in harmony with the seasons and cultivate orchards while preserving habitat. We volunteer to reforest areas of the county each winter and are active sponsors in the preservation of heritage foods . All 450+ acres are certified organic and our products kosher.

Americans derive almost all of their calories from just 12 crops. Yet, botanists estimate that 10,000 edible plants exist. Our mission is to showcase some of these novel and rare crops, while at the same time offering the traditional varieties that we all know and love. Our CSA share offers people who love to cook a chance to experiment but also provides everyday vegetables for those who are in a hurry. Early in the season, the contents of the share are decided by the farmer.
