In the 1960s Dr. J. Robert Smyth at the University of Massachusetts, created the Midget White turkey breed to meet an anticipated demand for a small turkey‚??capable of fitting into the smaller refrigerators of an increasing number of urban dwellers and single households. Yet the market for a smaller bird did not develop as predicted and a lack of demand almost pulled this breed out of production. The survival of this breed now lies completely in the hands of private individuals. Both The meat and the eggs of the Midget White are outstanding in quality
Haven Acres Farm operates organic gardens across 45 acres in SW Austin. We produce an array of fruits and vegetables for our customers. In addition to our garden offerings we raise heritage turkeys and geese for holiday tables as well as pastured raised muscovy ducks and chickens. We focus on the care and promotion of a variety of heritage breeds as a key element in the sustainable eco model at our farm.

Goose Creek Farm is a small, organic family farm in the heart of the Western North Carolina Appalachian Mountains. We raise a variety of free range, organic fed turkeys including heritage Bourbon Red turkeys and heritage Midget White turkeys. These two breeds won second and first place respectively in a blind taste test by Mother Earth News. We also raise heritage breeds of chickens including Light Brahma, Sicillian Buttercup, Lace-winged Wyndotte and Americauna.
Our community's volunteer run farm stand offers all locally grown and seasonal meats, produce, and eggs. We also host a free book/media exchange, community events and suppers, and a chance for farmers and consumers to come together.
