The rich, reddish-black plumage and red comb of the "Old-Type" Rhode Island Red chicken is an iconic symbol of American agriculture. It is a successful dual-purpose bird, and an excellent-tempered farm chicken, with a highly productive brown egg-laying rate. Since the 1940's, the Rhode Island Red has been selectively bred for more efficient egg production, becoming smaller, lighter colored, and less broody as a result. Of greatest conservation interest are the "Old-Type" Rhode Island Reds, which are larger, darker, and more broody. The "Old-Type" Rhode Island Red chicken has an incredibly rich flavor that is most appropriate for (and best released in) stews
We are a small farm located in Branford, FL. We are native Floridians and love the great outdoors. When we moved here we thought about raising poultry. Well, we found out about heritage breed turkeys and went from there. Our first pair were "PB" & "J", Narragansett turkeys. They are our personal favorites. We now have Narragansett's, Bronze, Harvest Gold, Penciled Palm, Calico and adding more breeds.
2011 Florida Innovative Farmers of the Year Caney Branch Farm is your source for naturally grown, hormone- and antibiotic-free grass-fed meat, eggs, and fiber. We raise heritage breeds of Belted Galloway cattle, Icelandic sheep, chickens, ducks, turkeys, and geese. We offer farm fresh eggs from our free-range chickens and wildflower honey from our chemical-free bee hives.
At Brother Jon's Farm, we do our best to raise animals that we can be proud of. Our heritage breed hogs are raised on certified organic feed.

Grass pastured Eggs are now available. This means that the hens are living on pasture, with grass and other vegetation and bugs for them to eat. This is a more natural life for them. They get moved EVERY DAY for fresh pasture. WE ALSO CAN PROVIDE YOU WITH FERTILE EGGS FOR HATCHING. In the future, we will have a variety of produce, which will vary through the season.
