The Mississippi Silver Hull bean is a variety of Crowder pea that is intimately connected with the culture of the American South. Cowpeas originated in the Niger River Basin of West Africa and were then brought to America during colonial times, at which point they became a staple food across the southeastern US. The Mississippi Silver Hull beans are large and brown with a meaty taste and a hearty texture. The peas are globular in shape and are very starchy. While this bean is not extinct, it is rare, as over 96% of the acreage of field peas is devoted to just two varieties.

A Producer Only Market means that only vendors who make or grow what they sell can participate. Most of our produce vendors grow with Organic Methods and are Certified Naturally Grown.

In 1960, Don and Genora Dennison, with their children, Wayve (that's me)
and Frank, moved from the family farm in Ohio to "The Switch", as it
was locally known, in Elora, TN, just 30 miles north of Huntsville, Al.
This is a historic farm that even has its own ghost story. 2010 marks
the Golden Jubilee of Dennison's Family Farm, and the 60th wedding
anniversary of Don and Genora!
They have spent the last 52+ years trying to be good stewards of the soil
and the wildlife on it.

We are a small scale farm located in Sumner County, Tennessee that is focused on producing organically grown food for the folks in our area by using Sustainable methods that renew the farm and the Nashville area. We focus on Organic vegetables, free range eggs, pastured pork, herbs, and flowers and we have a Community Supported Agriculture programs that provides to local families weekly from May until November. We are in the process of becoming certified Organic/Biodynamic.

In the fall, our attractions are: corn maze, hay rides, pumpkin patch (already picked), cow train rides, corn box, corn cannon, slides, farm animals,pedal carts, duck races, gift shop and concession. In the spring we offer u-pick strawberries, herbs, veggies and farm tours by appointment only. We are now taking applications for our 2011 CSA Year.
