Newtown Pippin Apple
This apple has a remarkably balanced tart/sweet flavor and an aroma described as "piney". It is noted for the quality of the fresh and fermented cider it yields, its superior baking qualities, its excellent taste when eating out-of-hand, and its ability to mellow and improve with storage. The Newtown Pippin was a favorite of several founding fathers, including George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson who grew them at Monticello.

Gary and Pat Grissom planted their first fruit trees in the spring of 1963.Included in the first planting were both apple and peach trees.The orchard has continued to expand with 70 acres presently under cultivation. Our peach harvest begins the third week of July, and finishes the first week of September. (more...)
What we feature is a wide array of old, rare heirloom grains that are struggling to show us that they have nutrition, flavor and history that is unrivaled by modern day mono-crop varieties.
