The Lorz Italian Garlic is an heirloom variety from the northwestern part of the US, with a very strong flavor. The Lorz family brought this plant to Washington State's Columbia River Basin in the early 1900s from their home in Italy. Lorz garlic thrives in hot summers, when it grows into garlic with a very bold flavor. The bulb can have anywhere from two to eighteen cream-colored cloves, which are contained within its purple-colored bulb and its thick wrappers. Generally harvested in the mid-season, the Lorz Italian garlic stores well for six to eight months.
Burge Organic Farm grows diverse and delicious varieties of fruits and vegetables year-round on 16 acres of intensively managed cropland. Our goal is to grow food that is honest, clean and of the highest quality. We specialize in open-pollinated heirloom varieties, which enables us to save our own seed and create varieties that our unique to our farm from our heirloom garlic, to harvests of wild plums, asparagus, baby okra, kiwis, Asian specialty vegetables.
The Buffalo Farmer's Market is held each Saturday morning from 8-Noon, beginning in May and going through the end of October. The dowtown location gives the market an old market atmosphere in the heart of this beautiful town. At the market you will find a wonderful selection of locally grown fruits and vegetables, eggs, meats, breads, and crafts. All products are grown or made by the vendors at the market and are all grown within 25 miles of the market.
Our beautiful farm rests at 6700 feet at the base Buckhorn Mountain in Montrose, Colorado. Although we are not certified organic, we go above and beyond the organic standards. We specialize in growing an assortment of heirloom and open pollinated vegetable varieties that are richer in nutrients and flavor then "standard" varieties. We focus on creating and maintaining healthy soil, using beneficial insects and companion planting to maximize production instead of using chemicals.
A family farm, with a focus on growing food naturally. We have a variety of produce, fruit and flowers. We are offering 1/2 shares for those interested in CSA. All of our seed is organic seed and open-pollinated seed.
This year we have expanded our garlic, growing some six varieties that range from mild to bold in flavor and heat. We have two more, but are building up our seed stock.
Tomatoes and salad greens will be available, as well as some watermelon that we grew succesfully last year.
Blue Moon Farm is a small Sustainable family farm, dedicated to producing gourmet quality varietal garlic as well as a garden full of traditional crops such as baby squash, beans, herbs, eggplant, peppers, etc. We make our own "knock-your-socks-off" Garlic Powder, and Garlic Scape Pesto.
We sell locally at the Saturday and Sunday Lexington Farmers' Markets (Lexington, KY) and Good Foods CoOp in Lexington.
We are a young organic apple orchard growing mainly heirloom varieties. Our first production year for apples will be 2012. We are also growing open-pollinated, non-GMO vegetables with a focus on potatoes. This year's potato varieties are: Adirondack Blue,
Red Thumb (fingerling).
