The origins of the Speckled Lettuce date back to Holland in the 17th century. From Holland, the lettuce was brought to Germany, where it was widely cultivated. Finally, in the late 1790s, the Speckled lettuce was brought to North America, first arriving in Waterloo County, Ontario. The name comes from the German â??forellenschluss,â?? which means "speckled like a trout". The lettuce is a loose-leaf variety that has juicy, thick, light green leaves that are speckled with maroon quarter-inch dots. Two Islands Farm Market is the best little market around! Located on Stockhouse's Farm on beautiful Puget Island, we feature local vendors who are presenting their Wahkiakum grown/produced products. Spend Friday afternoon shopping for locally grown plants, flowers and herbs, produce, poultry, beef , goat, pork and lamb by the cut, along with delicious bread and pies. We also have a Master Gardener booth, a 4H booth with activities and sometimes farm animals to pet as well as live music.

Turner Farm is a 60-acre certified organic farm in the northeast corner of Hamilton County. We operate four CSA programs (a 50-member vegetable CSA, a meat CSA, a flower CSA, and a winter vegetable CSA). We also sell at the Madeira Farmers Market on Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. till 7 p.m., and year-round directly from the farm. In addition to a variety of organic produce, we also have naturally raised lamb, pork, chicken, and eggs. All of our meat is available by pre-order only.

At Turkey Hill Farm we grow vegetables and fruits for market and select local restaurants. In Fall, Winter and Spring we grow Lettuces, traditional Southern greens, Asian greens, arugula, carrots, turnips, Brassicas, radishes, scallions, green garlic, turmeric and ginger roots, and Satsumas. In Summer we have Heirloom Tomatoes, blackberries, Elephant garlic, Shallots, Summer Squash, Sweet Basil, Peppers, Eggplant, Figs, Pears, Muscadine Grapes and Wild Blueberries.

At Truffula Seed Produce, farmers Shawn Connell and Josie Johnson grow fresh food with no pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic fertilizers. We envision a local food system which is environmentally sustainable and that builds community. We focus on open-pollinated and heirloom varieties of vegetables, melons and herbs. We don't use any genetically modified seeds. We sell vegetable and herb plants in the spring.
