The Beaver Dam Pepper is a Hungarian heirloom pepper that was brought to Beaver Dam, Wisconsin in 1929. The pepper's first fruits mature 80 days after transplanting, at which point they ripen from lime-green to red. The crunchy fruits are mildly hot and when seeded, they hold an excellent flavor. Rated as 3 on a heat scale of 1-5, the Beaver Dam is great for making fresh batches of cool and tangy salsas

Baker Road Farms grew from a collaboration of two families living on neighboring farms north of Holmen, Wisconsin--midway between La Crosse and Winona. We specialize in pastured poultry for eggs and meat, and offer a variety of organic and heirloom vegetables in season. Our birds are free-range and grass fed. We supplement with only certified organic feed. We have eggs available all year and broilers June through October.

Our farm has been in the same family since the early 1800. It is currently farmed by two generations, Jim and Kate Smith and their daughter, Maggie Smith. For direct retail sales we raise angus cross breed cattle, pastured laying hens and heirloom vegetables.

We are a small-scale diversified mixed produce farm certified organic by Oregon Tilth. We grow a wide range of vegetables and fresh herbs all from seed we start here on the farm.We grow many heirloom varieties. Shares in our 20 week summer C.S.A. are offered beginning in Feb. of each year and shares in our 7 week winter C.S.A. in early Oct. We also sell at the Bank St. Farmer's Market, to a couple great restaurants and the People's Food Co-op.
