The NEXT Steps Youth Entrepreneur Program manages Atwood Community Gardens, a 3.5 acre S.T.E.M-based urban agriculture training center and outdoor event facility. NEXT Steps utilizes transferable skills within the urban agriculture industry to introduce at risk youth to career pathways in science, technology, engineering and math (S.T.E.M.), strategic business planning, special event coordination, investigative research and discovery, community service, environmental stewardship, and social entrepreneurism. Atwood Community Gardens is located at 779 Atwood Street SW, Atlanta, GA 30310 - in the heart of West End Atlanta (near the Atlanta University Center, Morehouse & Spelman Colleges).
Atwood Community Gardens focuses on the social aspects of community gardening and urban farming -- placing emphasis on the communal benefits of helping friends, families, and neighbors gather together.
Atwood Community Gardens & Urban Farm offer a S.T.E.M. Cafe (outdoor seating area to emulate restaurant seating and facilitate cooking demonstrations), raised garden beds for community gardening and training activities, outdoor classroom and dirt box (soil conservation and composition workshops), a chicken coop and goat pen, walking trails, a wishing well, a main farm area, plenty of seating and a multi-purpose area for special events and garden activities.
