Belfast CSA-CSF Fair
Part celebration and part education, this free event brings local farmers & fishermen together with members of the community to share information about opportunities to enjoy local foods while supporting these enterprises in a meaningful way. Farms with Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs ask you to commit to purchasing a share of the coming harvest before the season begins. You provide the farm with much-needed capital in the off-season in exchange for getting your locally grown, freshly harvested food direct from the farm at a fair price. Here in the midcoast, fishermen from Port Clyde Fresh Catch, a fishermen's cooperative, offer a Community Supported âÂ?Fish DropâÂ?.
Participants in this year's Belfast CSA-CSF Fair, taking place Sun. 3/2 from 1-3pm at the Troy Howard Middle School (THMS) include: Glen Libby from Port Clyde Fresh Catch, Bahner Farm (Belmont), The Farmetta Farm (Morrill), Long Shadow Farm (Morrill), New Beat Farm (Knox), Out on a Limb Heritage Apple CSA (Palermo), Singing Nettle Farm (Brooks), Springdale Farm (Waldo), Village Farm (Freedom), and Cheryl Wixson's Kitchen (Belfast). Suecakes (Belfast) will have gluten-free vegan baked goods, the THMS Garden Project will be selling seeds and rosemary seedlings, Belfast Transition is hosting a bake sale to purchase books for the Belfast Free Library, and Frets & friends will provide acoustic music (and will bring ukukeles to try out!) There will be local produce, seafood and products for sale and sampling.
Co-sponsors: Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA), THMS Garden Project, Belfast Transition, and the Belfast Co-op. For more information, contact the Co-op's education coordinator, Kate Harris . For the statewide list of CSA Fairs, click here.
