Berkeley has made a district-wide commitment to integrating healthy foods into their school lunches, and teaching students the value of healthy eating. Nearly all of Berkeley's schools have school gardens, of third of these schools produce vegetables for school consumption. The District has also passed a progressive Food Policy recognizes the connections between healthy eating and effective learning and strives to bring only high-quality foods into their schools and encourage responsible consumption through health, recycling, composting, and gardening.
