Cultural Requirements:
 | | |
| Soil: | | Use a well drained soil mix. I prefer Sunshine Growers mix#1 or Pro Mix PGX. Reduce Nitrogen when flowering begins or you will not produce any pods on your Bhut Jolokia plant. |
| Propagation / Germination: | | The Bhut Jolokia needs 80-85 degree soil temps to germinate. Do not grow Bhut Jolokia seeds in peat. Use a well drained soil mix and soak your seeds in water for a few hours with 10 percent bleach before planting. Germinate your Bhut Jolokia seeds early indoors because it takes 120 days to fruit after transplant. Water young Bhut Jolokia seedlings sparingly or they will grow thin. |
| Sun: | | Bhut Jolokia prefer some partial shading not full all day sun. |
| Water: | | Over watering of Bhut Jolokia can cause flowers to drop off. |
I try to grow all plants organically or hydroponically whenever possible. I do not use chemical pesticides and prefer organic pest control and the use of predatory insects.
