Black Creek Farm

Black Creek Farm is located just north of Scottsville and south of Chili Center in south western Monroe County, NY. The farm has been managed organically for the last 4 years and we are moving towards USDA organic certification.

The focus of the farm is to provide summer vegetables to the local community in both a CSA format as well as at the Scottsville Farmer's Market. We also offer humanely raised, pasture based pork, chicken, eggs, and turkey to the local community.

While not certified organic, the farm will be a Northeast Organic Farming Association-New York Farmer's Pledge farm in 2008. The Farmer's Pledge is similar in nature to organic certification, and is intended with providing a set of guidelines which the farmer adheres to in their production and marketing practices. As such, all activities on the farm are done in the interest of improving the farm in terms of both ecology and economic sustainability to ensure the farm can be passed down to future generations in better shape than it was found, and at less of a cost to the community around the farm.

In order to achieve this end, the farm must strive constantly to improve the soil quality and increase natural biodiversity within the farm through such techniques as cover cropping, reduced tillage, management intensive/rotational grazing operations, as well as improving the riparian, windbreak, and woodland portions of the farm to provide habitat for beneficial wildlife.
