Black Turtle Beans are grown at Salamander Springs Farm near Berea, Kentucky without pesticides or petroleum-dependent fertilizers of any kind. The beans are hand harvested and sorted to dry in late summer and are shelled throughout the fall and winter. A staple in Latin American cuisine, black beans are a wholesome and nutritious source of protein which is also high in iron.
Salamander Springs Farm is a small-scale un-mechanized farm, run in accordance with permaculture principles. Our soil has not been tilled into powdery dust, instead is treated with TLC, cover crops and organic compost and mulches. It is teaming with life and organic nutrients which feed our crops--instead of petroleum-based, extracted fertilizers!
A delicious recipe is included on the package. Cooked beans freeze well so make a big pot and have quick meals later. Leftovers also make yummy refried beans for tacos or burritos!
