I am strolling, taking in the sights, sounds and smells of the garden...the mint has taken off nicely, the thyme as well...as I begin to feel a presence in the yard...aside from the birds...I AM NOT ALONE!!! ..But its 6:30 am, and the Inn is so quiet and I've not heard a peep from any of the guests. I look around the yard and see a blurry something in an old bluebird box attached to our tallest tree. I'm afraid to get close...who knows what it is...but as I approach, I notice its a squirell inside the box with his head resting out the hole and he is sleeping. I gasp...I had never thought there would be such an unlikely intruder in one of our beloved bluebird houses! Well, he hears me...he opens his eyes and stares straight at me. As if to say...'this is MY house...and I am comfortable here...I am staying'... he did not move or even blink!.
Needless to say, we have allowed him to stay...he is a source of amusement for us, for Quincy and for our guests...especially the shutterbugs of the bunch! He strikes many poses but my favorite of all is as I saw him the first time I spied him...asleep inside, with his head resting on the edge of the box, daring somebody to discover him!...Ahhh, Mother Nature!
