Pumpkins Progress More

We have germinating pumkin plants(seeds)! YeA, and we got over an inch of rain yesterday(Saturday, 4 July 09).

Pumkins Patch Progress

Just a quick note to say that we just got the pumkins planted for our fall pumkin activities.

We got finished Saturday 27 June just as the temperature was reaching the 95 degree mark.  Later the thermometer said that we got as high as 101.  Heat this high puts everything at risk.  Most of our neighbors' sweet corn is now at full tassel but the pollen can burn up in this heat.  Hopefully our drip irrigation can keep everything suitable for a good germination and quick start.

If you are counting maturity dates then you'll notice that we'll be pushing it for standard 100 day limits.

Keep your fingers crossed for us.

Life with Longhorns, barbed wire and busted knuckles

Hi to everyone!

We run a family farm in central Oklahoma.  We are transitioning into to sustainable and organic farming.  We raise longhorn cattle, mostly for show/pasture ornimentation and they are taking over our lives.  They are great pasture animals but when you to over a hundred animals then just keeping them all named becomes a real effort.

Tune in from time to time as we begin the 2008 winter calving season;  if you're lucky you'll get to see my spouse swiming in the tub with a chilled calf in an effort to rewarming them.

Thoughts on the past year and hopes for the Next Year!

Personal ruminations about the life and trials here on the farm of 2008; some whinning, some bragging.  [Read More]
