We will be at the farmers market in the SE corner of the mall parking lot Saturday morning. We will have eggs, green onions, red onions-these are sweet, and the coveted sweet spring spinach, and a few other things. Lesley and Kelsey will be holding down the stand for us!

We are excited to be partnering with the Springfield YMCA on Republic road for a southside pick up option this summer. If you have already signed up, but would like to change, don’t fret, just email us and we will make the change. We hope this helps you if you live on the southside and were not sure if wanted to drive to North Springfield to the farm. We will miss seeing and connecting with you weekly at the farm, but completely understand the pressure of gas prices and the need to keep that to a minimum. We will be there on Wednesday’s from 5-6pm. There is a $3/week charge for picking up here, payable to the delivery person at the time of pick-up, plus a one time charge of $10 for purchase of two plastic totes for us to bring your veggies to the pick-up (allowing us to swap them weekly). Each week your share will arrive at the ymca at 5pm, delivered by someone from the farm, and will be there for you to pick-up until 6pm. If you are unable to make it we will take it back to the farm where we will hold it for you through Thursday, but you will have to come out to the farm to pick it up. To sign up for this option, just choose YMCA as your pickup location as you register at http://millsapfarm.csasignup.com/members

We have posted the new summer CSA info on the website, so check it out.
Spring has sprung, or has it? This time of year always gets me going, excited for all the new beginnings that are everywhere. At the same time, it's a season to be approached with a certain amount of caution, as the warm weather sometimes lure plants out of winter dormancy, only to slam them to the ground with a hard frost in March or April. I hope that spring is really here, and not just a teaser.

We've had a really exciting few days here at the farm.
First, we had a conversation with Lesley, who will be joining us on the farm, working with us starting in February, and then moving out here in April. It's really exciting to have another partner in this venture, especially one who is so enthusiastic and energetic about farming. Lesley brings with her experience working on two other organic farms, a large agritourism operation, and another CSA, along with dairy experience (she currently milks two cows at her home near Nixa). She is very interested in expanding our Pastured Beef offerings, and will be working a lot with the gardens as well.
Second, we had our first Core group meeting, which was well attended and productive. We've got a member who will take on webmaster duties, two who will manage a yet to be created blog on Wordpress including recipes and posts from the farmers and members, another who will organize a carpool for one of our pick-up spots, two who will host a pick-up, and one who is handling publicity and sign-ups for our winter CSA. We also ironed out some of the details about the upcoming Summer 2009 CSA. All in all, it is a big relief for Sarah and I, as we never seem to have enough time in the day to do all that needs to be done.
Thirdly, KOLR channel 10 news came out to the farm today and taped a piece which aired on the evening news highlighting our CSA. It was a really nice piece, and it even included a cameo of our oldest daughter, plus some nice shots of greenhouse veggies and a quote from yours truly about reconnecting people to the farm. Lots of fun.
Finally, we are attending a vegetable growers conference this weekend in St. Joseph, MO, with a one day CSA Mini-school. We are excited about the possibility of conversing with other CSA farmers, both to see how they do things, and to possibly find solutions to a few of the problems which vex us.
All in all, a very exciting week on the farm, and a great way to start the new year.

Springfield Missouri is our farm's home, and we were relieved to find our farm in good shape after returning from the National Small Farm Conference and Trade Show in Columbia MO this past weekend. We come back to our the farm with refreshed and sharpened understanding of how our farm can be used for restoring and redeeming the least of these. In this we hope to help our community reconnect with the farm and their food. We are new to blogging, amd plan to use it to help keep our CSA and farm friends in the loop.[Read More]
