Living the Country Life

I did a radio interview last week for "Living the Country Life" radio.  Some of the questions asked during the interview prompted me to reflect once again why I like living the country life so well.  Moving to our place in the country 10 years ago was the beginning of a dream come true for us.  We chose to keep our jobs in the city until retirement which meant a 3 hour daily commute.  Over the years, many people have asked us why we put up with that long drive every day.  We tell them all they have to do is come to the farm and spend some time and they will see first hand.

You see to us, Heritage Farm is our little piece of heaven on earth.  It is a place that once you visit, it beckons you to stay.  Sure, it takes a lot of work to maintain and make a profit from our alpacas, but its the kind of work that makes you feel good at the end of the day.  It's really our recreation.  Recreation -- that's a good word.  Re-create.  The farm and our alpacas re-create a sense of pride and  accomplishment -- the thankfulness and gratitude to God above for giving us the awesome priviledge of taking care of a small piece of His creation and getting back to the rich heritage of the land we both grew up with.

At the end of the day, we look out over the paddocks, past the barn and the alpacas and admire the rich colors of the setting sun.  This is why I like living the country life so well!

P.S.  you can listen to the interview on one of 140 U.S. radio stations this fall or at www.livingthecountrylife.com
