Lambing

After waiting for over 6 months due to the adverse weather last spring we now had our first lambs of Cotswold Origin.

Cotswold is an old English Breed considered one of the few Gourmet Sheep Meats in the world.

After 2 breeeding cycles, we finally had succes in having our first own Cotswold-Crossbred offspring.

They are extremely pretty (I think), with freckles on their face and legs and more curly hair than normal sheep...

We will have up to 30 lambs this year and in about one year, we should know how the meat tastes...

But don't worry - We only process the Males. Females stay with us permanently.

Plus they have a happy life on pasture every day, guarded by our brave guardian Llamas...

Chickens

In early December, our first 55 little chicks arrived in the mail, and since then we've been raising them with lots of love (and organic chick feed)...

Starting February/March/April we should have our first certified organic, farm raised and pastured (at least partly / grass-fed) chicken eggs.

You will be able to be the first to enjoy them in the restaurant, in one of Chef Stefans famous dishes...

Our Chickens are: Ameraucanas (green & blue eggs), Welsummers (dark brown), Marans (Dark-Red-Brown), Wyandottes (Brown to dark brown), Buff Orpingtons (light brown) and Rhode Island Reds (light brown).

They are very pretty, and its really exciting to see them grow and be marrier every day...

Llamas

We recently got 2 female Llamas from a local Breeder.

Their job will be to protect our little lambs from getting cought by the hungry coyotes...

They are really pretty - Welcome to the farm Schoki and Lamy!

the distilled essential oils and hydrosols have a very good quality and will be available next year,

the dried flower buds are amazing and will have to through another few cleanings until they can be used for tea, desserts or cooking.

next year we will experiment with a few new lavender varieties...

Pregnant Cows...

Spring brought good news:

 Our cows are pregnant!

If everything works out well, we should have little calves in late August or early September...

They will be a cross between Jersey and Meat Breed.

It's going to be exciting, since that also means that we can start milking again and eventually reach the goal of producing our own raw-milk cheese one day...

Vegetable seeding

Last week, we finished seeding almost 4000 Flower, Herb and Vegetable Seeds in the Greenhouse.

The Sunflowers are already sprouting and will be used for Cut-Flowers during the Lavender Festival and for a new Flower Garden next to our new Flower-Shop.

We also seeded ornamental Gourds, Corn and Amaranth for the Restaurant and Rooms Decoration.

European Herbs and Vegetables, including Potatoes, Beets, Onions, Garlics and Basil were seeded for use in the Grand Oak Restaurant,

Pumpkins will be used for the Pumpkin Festival in Fall and  Birdhouse Gourds for Birdhouse or Childrens crafts on the Animal Farm...

and many more Flowers will be used to lighten up the whole Grounds of the Resort and Farm...

This should be a nice, flowery Summer!

New Cosmetics Line

We recently started a new cosmetics line in cooperation with the San Diego Natural Soap Company called 123 Farm Organics.

We tried to incorporate the highest possible amount of Organic Ingredients, and I think I have never smelled a nicer product. Truthfully. I was really surprised.

Our products are comprised of 71% organic and 97% natural ingredients. That is much higher than most so called organic brands in the Health Food Stores. Plus they are full of good stuff like vitamins and essential oils.

Try it out, its awesome...

:-)

Planting...

Winter season is time for planting...

This winter we planted several hundred Italian and a few Greek Olive trees and are planning to plant over a hundred Heirloom Apple Trees.

We are also planning to plant almost 2 Acres of a new Lavender varieties.

Its an exciting time and things will be very beautiful here by summer...

Lavender Harvest

Finally...  After more than six weeks, the Lavender Harvest is over - the French Lavender buds are safely stored in large fiber drums and the English Lavender all distilled into big brown bottles...
