An herbal experience!

The fall garden at my house consists of broccoli, cabbage, collards, sugar snap peas, and lettuce. Planted some celery, too, still waiting to see what that looks like! I still have arugula, as it reseeds itself pretty well. Still getting a few tomatoes and peppers, and green beans as I planted a late crop. A spaghetti squash is taking off across the lawn, too, but i'm not sure he'll make it before frost, we'll see. I am enjoying the seasons here in Dallas, Georgia, and am looking forward to trying my hand at growing herbs INSIDE for a change this winter. Ya'll have a blessed day! debbie

Had my first "leaf" of arugula today while i was weeding the greens patch....mighty good picking food straight from the ground and eating it right there! Don't think you can get fresher than that!

Yesterday I picked my first collards of the season and they were delish! I had some Kale to eat up, too, so I cooked them together. The arugula is really starting to shoot up, too, and I can't wait to have some in a salad, hopefully next week. Growing your own food can't be beat ! Saw some swiss chard make an appearance, and spinich and lettuce too.....grow babies grow, cause you don't have long in Georgia before you will want to bolt! I am going to try using row covers to help keep them shaded as long as possible and "drag out" the season....wish me luck! Anyone got any tips on this, let me know by commenting or emailing me! deb

It sure has warmed up the past few days, it's 81 degrees right now in Marietta Georgia ! I am loving the weather, and watching my arugula, collards and kale reach for the sky! Hope it doesn't stay 81 too long, though, i'd hate to have them go to seed before I can eat any! Ya'll have a wonderful weekend! I'll be digging up the yard getting ready for the plant sale and move! deb

We sure needed the rain we are getting this weekend in Marietta! Making things poke up out of the ground further and green up! My small patch of kale, collards and arugula are looking good! Fig tree has buds....and the blueberry bushes, too! Can't wait for some sunny weather so i can get back out there in the dirt....in the meantime, hand me that seed catalog again, I might have missed something! Ya'll have a great day! deb

Hello, all, I'm just curious what folks in other parts of the country (or even in my own city!) have coming up (if anything), either in the garden/field, greenhouse or on the window sill! I have collards, kale, and arugula up, as well as Cilantro planted in the fall is shooting upward. I will be planting sugar snap peas this weekend, and who knows what else, maybe some lettuce? I also have basil under the grow light in the house. I reworked the strawberry bed, and also saw buds sitting tight on the blueberries. Not to mention all the many, many other things tentatively poking through the earth! Daffodils blooming the past few days, my favorite flower! So glad to see a little warmer weather here. If you get a minute, comment and tell me what you've got planted, and where you are. Hope everyone has a great weekend! deb

Ahhhhhh finally, spring is in full force! Yesterday I saw my first hummingbird of the year! And this morning, ate my first, sweet sweet strawberry right off the vine, as well as sampled some lettuces and arugula! What a beautiful time of the year. I give thanks to God to have a new day, a new spring! The green beans and peas are pushing through the earth, to begin their climb toward the heavenlies....and the HERBS, they are stretching to the sky as well! Feeling quite a bit grateful this morning - hope all of you have a lovely, productive day! debbie

Spring is finally here!! A bit cool today in Marietta, GA, the high is supposed to be 64, and a bit windy....definitely spring! I've been out doing a bit of "maintenance" with the radishes, thinning....planting carrots, arugula, more radishes...transplanting brussel sprouts, checking on the broccoli....lettuces look fine, starting to fill out a bit. The strawberries are greening up and flowering, as are the lavender bushes! I will probably be out there the rest of the day, I cannot stay inside once the weather tells me it's spring! (unless it's raining on me relentlessly-then i hit the greenhouse!) Everyone have a HAPPY SPRING DAY!

Just checking in.....we had a good freeze the other night and it zapped the impatiens, oh well, it was time i suppose. I picked some salad greens this evening and had them for dinner. Arugula and baby greens, mixed. I love Arugula, it's my new favorite salad green!!! Picked up some more pecans, shelled some....got an offer from another neighbor to come pick up pecans, she doesn't want them :-) think i will be in her yard come Sat. afternoon! I also planted some more garlic bulbs as they came in the mail today. They had very small sprouts on them so i decided what the heck, go outside and plant them, then you don't have to worry about it anymore! So i did. Hope everyone is staying warm. Take care and God Bless!
