Potatoes and more potatoes

It's a little late but dug potatoes yesterday...dug only half of them and have a huge clothes basket full....blue, Yukon gold, pink fingerling and red.....haven't gotten to the whites yet.  Picked a lot of the winter squash....I'll be eating well all winter.  Hope the nice weather stays around for awhile so I can get the chicken campers cleaned for the winter.

Offically Fall

To the comment from last blog entry: Yes, the individual that owned the marauding dogs was identified and she actually had the nerve to plead not guilty to the magistrate...would you believe this...she has an animal shelter!!!!!....She did pay a fine and made restitution for the chickens...too Nutz!!!

Clean-up time for the garden and around the farm...I see I have lots of winter squash to pick...hurrah.... then will clean up the rest of the garden, take down the electronet and let the chickens go to work.  Have some new silkies....my first bantams....they are so funny.  Not your production types, but very cute.  Will be getting the replacement egg layers in the spring.

Had about 4.5" of rain since last night....what a pain....digging trenches all day to carry off the water and prevent the barns from flooding.  That's the downside of hillside living.  We did need the rain...but!!!!!

One last thing....get in touch with your senator and ask them to reject S 510 [Senate Bill 510]...look it up if you don't know what this is about.....it's CRITICAL for small farmers and local producers.

Looking to Fall

Well the garden is winding down...tomatoes everywhere..more freezing and canning soon!  New [June] chicks are ready to go out with the "big girls" and the rest of the hen population is still recovering from a dog attack last month, where 5 were killed and 2 were wounded.  Sheep fleece has all been sold. Looking through catalogs deciding what plants to start for next [2011] Spring. Will be breeding a dairy goat this Fall...OH what fun!!!!...The 'buckies' are such jerks!
