It's been a busy fall in Mount Vernon, WA, as we enjoyed Co-op Month in October and now prepare for the holidays. We've been busy getting an interactive and engaging new website design up and running. So please come check out the updates, favorites, specials, articles, and photographs at www.skagitfoodcoop.com.
Tomorrow we welcome poets Peter Ludwin and Lana Ayers to read in our community meeting room. Saturday there will be a music consciousness workshop and then live music in the store - the co-op is a great third place, where music and art and wordcraft can share space with food to feel good about, and people who care.
I just sent a message via change.gov to Obama's administration, about local fair trade networks and regional food systems. It feels good to let hope flare up in my heart. We've got so many solutions working at the grassroots level, we just need some support of sustainable food systems in agricultural policy. This includes farm workers as stakeholders in the chain, and shifts economic values toward a triple bottom line capitalism, which perhaps can sustain all of us on this planet. The momentum shift needed will be huge, but it's possible.
