Our Gardens and Orchards

We have been busy this year with the garden and the rains have been coming more often.  In the northern parts of Louisiana we don't get as much rain as in the south, thank goodness, the gourds rot because of it in the south.

For a while we had a drought situation and the birds and animals were coming in more often to munch, even took out my herb garden, left the Basil after yanking it up.

Had to invest in another Scarecrow Scare Eye sprinkler to try and protect the peach orchard from woodpeckers and other birds; the squash and almost everything else form the deer (they even eat the potato tops).  I cannot figure out what they like about the squash leaves though, and gourd leaves?  All in all, I still love to see them during the day nibbling in the shade, and cleaning up the pears the crows have knocked down.....just don't let them start in on my hibiscus, I believe that would be ... another story!!

Our Gardens and Orchards

Hope everyone is enjoying this wonderful weather.  I spent a good part of the day in the peach orchard, at least it was me and the woodpecker!!

Woodpeckers absolutely love peaches and plums and are not embarrassed to join humans in the trees.  I decided to share today, while I was picking that is.  When I leave the orchard I restart the Scare Eye Sprinkler to at-least keep the crows out!!  I do hope they clean-up the grounds for me though.

Finished the day off making fresh batches of Peach Preserves.   I love it when the pan is to the bottom, and there is still just enough for that handy piece of bread, of course with peanut butter too!!  We have to keep our strength up, you know.

Since my husband is a military retiree, we observed Memorial Day at church yesterday, would rather not go to town to any of the observances, so we stayed home and enjoyed our farm life.

I hope to have the Peach Preserves up and on our store this week, they are absolutely wonderful.

And, YES!!  The gourds are growing great too in the field, managing to keep the deer away, so far.
