Our Gardens and Orchards

What a joy it is harvesting our figs.  One of our trees is huge now and keeps getting bigger.  Backing up to the barn it has so much nourishment the cows left on the floor.  It is the healthiest Fig tree I have ever seen.

Being so huge, I have to get on the barn and climb ladders to reach many areas, and go under the limbs to reach other areas.  This also allows us to leave certain areas for the birds.  I love it being just the woodpeckers and me in the tree!!  Those woodpeckers talk up a storm, like they are fussing at me for taking their food, and other times, it seems they are laughing at me!!!

Whatever the birds and I are saying or doing, the "tree" still brings a bounty for both man and the creatures of nature!!

And now it is time to get to work on those Fig Preserves!!

Our Gardens and Orchards

Hope everyone is enjoying this wonderful weather.  I spent a good part of the day in the peach orchard, at least it was me and the woodpecker!!

Woodpeckers absolutely love peaches and plums and are not embarrassed to join humans in the trees.  I decided to share today, while I was picking that is.  When I leave the orchard I restart the Scare Eye Sprinkler to at-least keep the crows out!!  I do hope they clean-up the grounds for me though.

Finished the day off making fresh batches of Peach Preserves.   I love it when the pan is to the bottom, and there is still just enough for that handy piece of bread, of course with peanut butter too!!  We have to keep our strength up, you know.

Since my husband is a military retiree, we observed Memorial Day at church yesterday, would rather not go to town to any of the observances, so we stayed home and enjoyed our farm life.

I hope to have the Peach Preserves up and on our store this week, they are absolutely wonderful.

And, YES!!  The gourds are growing great too in the field, managing to keep the deer away, so far.
