Brookings Wednesday Market starts up March 27th

Mark your calendars on March 27th for the start of the Brookings Wednesday Farmers' Market! Remember, we hold this popular farmers' market at the Chetco Grange Community Center (corner of Highway 101 and Zimmerman Lane in Harbor) every Wednesday from 10 am to 3 pm.

NEWS FLASH!! We'll be asking the Chetco Grange to approve making the Wednesday Market YEAR-ROUND - watch this blog (or the Pilot) for news once this is approved.

You can expect, for the first six weeks or so, bedding plants, greens, salad mix, eggs, root crops, and a variety of locally produced foods and crafts. Strawberries usually start in mid-May, and our market builds from there.

So...plan your week around the Brookings Wednesday Farmers' Market! We'll look forward to seeing you...

Important changes to our 2013 CSA share program

Well, it's that time again - time to get your membership lined up for this season's CSA Share Program (you'll find our 2013 CSA information and membership form attached to this email).

Most of the details for this season are unchanged from last year. HOWEVER, I have made one major change: this year, we will be distributing the weekly boxes on TUESDAYS  instead of Wednesdays (starting June 18th and going through October 29th). Here's how it will work:

1. You will still come to the Chetco Grange for your weekly box, but you'll come on Tuesdays for "Members-Only Distribution" (instead of on Wednesdays during the Farmers' Market).

2. You will get your box from inside the Grange, entering through the kitchen entrance (we'll have a sign outside to help direct you) between 1:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. every Tuesday. The Grange will be open exclusively for you, our Members (in other words, you won't be competing with Farmers' Market customers when you come for your box).

3. You will be able to trade for produce from ALL the participating farms, rather than being limited to just what we, OtterBee's, has available.

4. You will still be able to add to your box using your 10% membership discount - all the participating farms will have extra stuff there on Tuesdays, just for you.

The other changes I'm making this year are small ones - for instance, eggs have gone up to $50 for a dozen every other week - 10 dozen total (up $5 bucks). Note: I have heard that I may be losing one of my egg suppliers, but for the time being, assume we'll have plenty for those of you who choose this option.

Also, I'm switching from creating a weekly newsletter to creating a weekly blog; I think that with a blog, we'll be able to get all the info that you may need in one place so you can review anything you need anytime you like. Lynne Smith will again be in charge of recipes, how-to's, and the like; we'll also include more details about each of the partner farms, plus anything else we can think of that would be of interest to you (like pertinent links, etc.) For those of you who DON'T have regular internet access, let me know when you send in your membership and I'll note it so I can print you out something from the blog each week. (Note: I'm a novice when it comes to blogs, so will set mine up through our Local Harvest website - bear with me for the next few months while I figure out what I'm doing!) :-)

So...feel free to read through pages one and two of the CSA attachment; or, if you're an old hand at this (and some of you are "lifers" when it comes to this CSA!), just skip the first two pages and go straight to the Membership Form... :-)

And, of course, call or email me if you have any questions that aren't addressed in this email or the attachment, or if you need something clarified. I'll keep in touch with everyone through the end of May, so you have plenty of time to ask any questions which come up, especially about the changes I've outlined above.

In the meantime, think about the long summer days that are coming, and the wonderful local fruits and veggies that this season will surely bring!

Ciao,
Kathleen
