Spring Fever on Golden Farm

We have spring fever on Golden Farm.  The big snow in December had Farmer Sue snowed in for days, wading through four foot drifts to feed and water all of the critters.  We slept and fed, and slept and fed.  The dogs and cats loved it!  The rest of us got through it.

Now the snow has melted and the rains have come.  I almost walked out of my boots the other day, the mud is so thick.  But the chickens have a good time pecking in the mud.  The other day the turkeys found my kitchen garden, which is on a hill and drier.  I don't know who had more fun, me or the turkeys.  The turkeys took dirt baths and picked at whatever they could find, and made lots of noise.  I loved watching them.  The weather was warm, the wind was down, and everyone enjoyed being outside.

Visions of fresh grass and garden plots are swimming through Farmer Sue's brain.  It won't be long now before we start planting.  We're bringing in manure to work the soil, and burning brush piles to coninue improving the pastures.  Soon we will be sowing seed in the pasture, along with lime.  The new fruit trees have been "watered in."

We are working on a garden shed, so we can start our plants indoors. If you have anything special you would like for us to plant, please let us know.

In the meantime, stay warm and dry, and plan a visit -- but wait til the mud goes away.
