Golden Spice Rice

This week on Cookus Interruptus:

Golden Spice Rice

(No blame, no gain)

Sautéing the rice before cooking it results in a more separate finished grain.  By adding a few simple spices you add fragrance to the rice and add a lovely golden color.  Serve this with Vegetable Chickpea Curry, Black Bean Stew, Fried Tofu and Coconut Peanut Sauce, French Lentils with Sage Butter or Thai Yellow Curry.  Very versatile whole grain dish. Want to do something fun and easy with rhubarb, make Strawberry Rhubarb Sauce and serve it on Ben’s Friday Pancakes.  Food and recipes sprouting up everywhere on Cookus Interruptus where we await whatever comments you might spring on us.

Fried Tempeh

Hey!  Do you know how to make fried tempeh?  Do you know what tempeh is?  Find out.  And share ideas for how you use this Indonesian soy food in the comment section below the video at Cookus Interruptus.

Starting Baby on Food

Feeding your baby fresh, local, organic whole foods is easy and inexpensive if you just whir a bit of your own delicious food in the blender.  Watch and read the how and what of starting your baby on solid food this week on Cookus Interruptus.  We use pears from our Poached Pear recipe and Delicatta Squash.  Nice.

Date Pecan Bon Bons

Peeps for the holidays?  Nah.  Impress your friends with these sweet, coconutty, orange-zesty treats.  Recipe at Cookus Interruptus.  We make these in cooking class at Bastyr University and students love them because they're yummy and easy to tote.  Perfect post game snack for kids playing sports. Try 'em!

Grace's Mole con Pollo

FIESTA! This one is a keeper. Grace's Mole Con Pollo (Chicken in Mole Sauce) (Joaquin is the decider) Deep rich chocolate melts into tomato chili sauce to create this simple mole. Fantastic baked on chicken or cheese enchiladas (for our vegetarian friends). Serve it with Mexican Brown Rice, guacamole and a fresh green slaw. Read Steve’s latest musings on our blog. Don’t forget to interrupt-us by leaving a comment. http://cookusinterruptus.com/index.php?video_id=106
