Eggs, blueberries, and more

It always seems like each month is a very busy month but in a different way. This is a crazy time where fruit trees, nut trees, and blueberries are sold as bare root. In the last three weeks we have planted blueberries, apples, figs, almonds, pomegranate, cherries, apricots, olives, pineapple guava, mandarins, valencia oranges, and persimmons.

It is exciting to get all of these trees in the ground and we can't wait to see how they do in the spring. It is very cathartic and therapeutic to get your hands in the dirt even in winter. We get a week to expand our egg laying business then back to the trees for pruning. The trees are all dormant and asleep for the winter like a bear in it's cave. We will give them all a good pruning so that they can do their best come spring.

Speaking of spring, we have had some crazy weather. No rain for two weeks and highs in the mid to upper sixties! It sure feels like March but I'm sure we will be reminded very soon that we are still solidly in the winter season. All this warm weather is happening while the mid west and eastern part of the country is in sub-zero temperatures. I'm glad we are in the foothills of northern California.
