Westminster Farmer's Market Report for 06-26-09

Last week was very busy at the farmers’ market.  We had about 9 booths and they were all hopping throughout the entire afternoon.  The amount of food items is increasing each week both prepared and whole!  I saw some incredible looking prepared sandwiches at Ann Patsis booth – they were meal sized and you may consider stopping by her booth for supper!  We had vendors with beef, pork, kale, swiss chard, salad greens, radish, rhubarb, asparagus, herbs, eggs, Capri goat cheese along with Smith’s country cheese.  Also available: breads (olive, feta, garlic, cinnamon, Finnish, English muffin, hamburger rolls, gluten-free), rhubarb pie and crisp, jam, seedlings, annuals, cakes and cookies.  Read about the nutritional value of Kale http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kale and swiss chard http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kale.  It will definitely make you want to include it at your dinner table!

Reviews Please

Hi All:
Please check out our listing for The Westminster Farmer's Market at:
http://www.localharvest.org/farmers-markets/M24478
Marie Auger has linked this page from the Town's Website. This may be an easier way for people to access our listing (just click on ... more, next to the farmers market rules on The Town's site).
Sheryl Vaillette sent out pictures of our market. I selected one and put it up on the listing.
If you can, please take the time to write a review of The Westminster Farmer's Market. We don't have any reviews yet. It would be nice to get a couple different points of view. If you are a vender, be honest and say so. Describe what you like about our market, and what can be improved. If you are a customer, how did you find us? Will you come back again? What keeps you coming back each week? What additions, improvements, or changes would you like to see?
Please pass this on to people who have an interest in The Westminster Farmers Market. Now that we have a listing with Local Harvest, it would be nice to have an exchange of ideas with customers and grower/venders.

Westminster Farmer's Market Report for June 9,2009

Hello to Westminster Farmers' Market Vendors,

I am preparing to send out my "Westminster Farmers' Market Report" and would like input.  Are you planning to attend the market as a vendor this week?  If so, what will you be selling?  Is anyone bringing rhubarb and/or asparagus?  Strawberries?  Any other vegetables?  What about berry plants or vege plants?  Two weeks ago I highlighted rhubarb with nutrition information and recipes -- then I'm not sure anyone brought rhubarb to the market.  I'm sending the report out on Wednesday morning so if you want your items included, please get back to me today.

Also, I include the following paragraph each week -- and we are starting to get a great response to it -- having had customers deliver egg cartons, nursery pots, seed six packs, glass jars.  Since the response to this is growing, I want to highlight it.  We leave several recycle bins where customers can drop off their no-longer-needed items.  Is there anything you want added to the list?  Anything currently on the list will be shared among all vendors who have a need for that item.  And by the way, I am in need of 50lb paper flour or grain sacks.  I have been wetting them and using them as mulch between my rows in my very-weedy vegetable garden.  I am in desperate need of about 100 more of these, so if you have any...

Please consider reducing your trash and recycling.  Reusing an item is more beneficial to the environment than recycling it (which can be done when it is no longer useful) so be kind to our town and donate what you have in your recycle bin!  We will have a bin available where you can leave items for vendors to reuse!  The following items are needed:  garden center pots, seed six packs, egg cartons, small/medium glass jars, coffee grounds, empty 50 lb brown paper sacks -- food grade, unwanted coolers in good condition.

Thank you for your time,

Kerrie Hertel
