Westminster Farmers' Market Report for 06-01-12

Graduation Congratulations from Westminster Farmers’ Market

Our region’s High School Seniors are graduating this weekend and it will be a busy one for many! Westminster Farmers’ Market has what you need for some relaxation during this event packed weekend.

Get your shopping done early on Friday while enjoying the Market. Stop for some strawberries and unwind while listening to the music of Tom diBuono and Joe Reidy while enjoying the company of your friends and neighbors.

Stock up on the region’s best specialty cow and goat cheeses from Smith’s Country Cheese and Westfield farm. Grab a loaf of locally-made artisan bread and some homemade jam for a perfectly effortless appetizer (or dinner on a really busy evening).

Opt for a simple crock-pot meal. All you need is some farmers’ market stew meat, a packet of farmers’ market Italian dressing mix and a few minutes in the morning.

Grab your salad fixings and make enough for the entire weekend. Lettuce and mixed greens, blue cheese, scallions and toss in a few fresh orange slices. Whip up your favorite vinaigrette and you are done.

Prepare a crudités for a Sunday afternoon snack and a Monday lunchbox treat. Cut up some carrots, zucchini, radish and whatever else you can find as you shop through the market. Don’t forget some farmers’ market ranch dressing mix to top it off.

Healthy, Delicious and LOCAL Fresh vegetables and fruits available now: strawberries, zucchini, scallions, radish, gourmet salad greens, asparagus, rhubarb and more. Regional gourmet specialty foods include farm-fresh eggs, locally raised grass-fed beef, pastured pork, pastured, free-range chicken, award-winning goat and cow cheeses, a wide variety of artisan breads, jams and jellies, spice mixes, delicious desserts and pastries, pies and cookies. Summer planting continues and so does the supply in the market. We have several specialty growers that will give you something far beyond the standard varieties that are found in the stores. Try black and yellow tomatoes. It is not too late to plant and you can make your garden a gourmet delight! The market is open from 3:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Fridays. WIC and Senior Coupons are accepted. For more information visit www.WestminsterFarmersMarket.com or find us on facebook.
