Wintertime and the livin' easy. Not exactly, but things have slowed down quite a bit. I used to think gardening was a 4 month out of the year job - HA! It is year 'round for market gardeners and farmers.
This is my second year of market gardening and I am learning about the fall crops that I can keep through the winter. My kale is doing wonderfully well as is the heirloom chard. Hoop-house covering is not as easy as one might think. It is easy to assemble, but not easy to keep covered in the wind surges that hit this little valley.
So...if you shop at the winter farmers' markets, please note that the ones with produce are dedicated to growing extended season crops for the market, are picking crops with very cold and wet fingers, and have packed up/loaded in the cold to bring these wonderful local goodies to YOU.
Please support your local farmers.
Now...on to my seed inventory...
I wish everyone a heart warming holiday season. Enjoy your friends and family and do something fun for yourself.
