SAFF

I have just returned from my first participation of the "Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair". It was a great experience and I was able to meet a lot of new and nice people.  There are really a large number of fiber artists and enthusiasts living in southeastern USA.

I was there with CABO and we had alpaca fiber, yarns, socks, and other products.  I was promoting Alpaca raised in North Carolina and all yarns and products either hand made or at the very least made in the USA.  When this philosphy is followed you are assured of the quality of the items plus this helps others have a job to earn a living in our own country.

Those who visited our booth were also treated to knitting, weavin, spinning, wet felting, needle felting, and dying of yarns by Ruth.  She is very talented and a good teacher.  We also had some of the first 338 Pendleton produced 100% USA Alpaca Woven Blankets. These were commercially produced and reflect the Pendleton tradition.

Fiber Fairs

Hi everyone.  I am now beginning to attend some fiber fairs.

My first one was the "John Blue Cotton Festival" in Laurinburg, NC.

There were food vendors, a sheep spinner, wood carver, purse designer, alpaca demonstrators and products. People were very interested in learning how to take the fiber from the alpaca to being able to make clothing with it.  They were instructed on shearing, carding, spinning, and knitting to get finished products.

There were numerous people interested in also learning about needle felting.  We had a good group that we were able to talk with and find out what they are looking to see and learn.  People came from as far away as Florida and New Jersey.

The weather could have been more co-operative but all in all it was a great week-end. I am looking forward to next year and hoping to meet many more people and be able to educate more people about the eco-friendly characteristics of alpacas and the fact that their fiber is one of the most hypo-allergenic natural fiber from animals.

I believe there would be fun and education for anyone attending next year.
