We are thrilled to announce that we will be able to do our Annual ‘Spring’ Clean Up Day this Fall! Many of you who were planning on coming out this past Spring for our annual event were very disappointed, as were we, due to the Memorial Service for Neil’s mom. Well, we are planning the grand event for Saturday, November 3rd, 2012 from 10am to 4pm. As usual Neil will be roasting a hog and we will serve up all the fixen’s with it… a Farm to Table Dinner at the Farm! Of course we will serve my famous Vegetarian Lasagna for all our veggie lovin’ friends! As always everyone is welcome, both our CSA members along with our Farm Market Friends, to others know simply as ‘customer’s.
As many of you know, last summer we purchased the property next door to us, which is where Neil’s butcher shop is. We will have an Open House along with Neil giving a hand’s on demonstration of… oop’s, almost gave that one away… you gotta come to find out!
We have a few big jobs and of course lots of little jobs that we need help to get done. With this busy time of year, there are several jobs that need to be done in preparation for spring… Here is the list of gotta do’s!
~ We will plan on using a paint sprayer to white wash (paint white) the entire bottom of the barn. This is going to serve as a new chicken coop which will allow us to produce all the eggs we need for all of you. The nesting boxes will need to be affixed to the current walls, fresh straw for bedding will need to be spread through out and the chickens will need to be moved in. This will be a big job that will take a several people and several sprayers. If you have a sprayer that you would be willing to loan or even better, bring and use, we would so greatly appreciate it!
We will be setting up two outdoor runs for the chickens to go out to from the coop. We will be setting posts, attaching chicken wire to the gates that will serve as the fence.
~We are also planning on laying plastic ground cover in one section of our back field. This will be the new Asparagus and Rhubarb patch. This job will take probably about four to six people to roll out and tack down.
~We will have some transplanting to do in the winter hoop house, along with minimal weeding.
~There will also be some green house seeding going on.
… There will be several other small jobs that need to be done, including general clean up of beds, weeding and such.
As always the more the merrier, but we do need a head count for the food preparation. As in years past, although I adore your children, please refrain from bringing children under the age of 9… this is a working farm and there are dangers. So if you can join us please R.S.V.P no later than October 27th, 2012 via email at firstname.lastname@example.org .
Please let us know:
~how many will be coming
~any food allergies/ special dietary needs~ gluten free, nut allergies, dairy allergies, etc.
~ if you would like to dine vegetarian
… and any other thing I have forgotten.
As in years past, please bring extra tools: hammers, electric screw guns, measuring tapes, etc.
Also, if anyone has a paint sprayer as I mentioned earlier, that would be great.
Dress accordingly~ mud boots & junky, warm clothes ~ some will be outside while others are in the barn, hoop house & greenhouse.
We look forward to spending the day at the farm with all of you!
