HANDS-IN-THE-DIRT OCTOBER

Two classes are scheduled for October 2011.  These will cover year-round gardening, garden preparation, and much more.

Classes are free, and are held as part of our mission to help US residents become gardeners — or expand gardens — to feed themselves and their communities from within.

October 9th at 1pm the class will be held in Zebulon NC at the “Tucker” greenhouse in Zebulon, NC.  If you’ve been to classes before, it is the greenhouse on Harrison Street.

October 30th at 1pm the class will be held in Clayton NC and will include Fall/Halloween goodies in addition to the class.

Call to register, or watch for more details in our upcoming newsletter.  (Our newsletters are online at http://www.thegardensedge.org.)

School Garden Budget

School gardens are possible without government grants or use of US tax dollars.  A little elbow grease and some local support can get your school garden growing with little or no expense.  [Read More]

Garden soil needed for school gardens

We are working with two elementary schools putting in gardens. The gardens are expected to be installed during October, barring no delays. One is needed at the start of October to fit with the teacher's lesson plans. We have materials, tillers, labor and seeds/plants we need.

We are seeking donations of garden soil -- preferrably organic garden soil -- for approximately 130 square feet (two areas at each of the two elementary schools). If your company or organization can donate this soil, please contact Kay at 919.269.5414 (Grow And Share).
