Super Saturday at the Bluegrass Farmers' Market!

The hot days of summer are sure upon us! It sure makes you appreciate the many hours that our farmers spend out in their fields tending to the crops that get freshly harvested for the market. I know I appreciate their work with each bite that I take out of a fresh tomato, a crisp cucumber, savoring that wonderful sauteed zucchini and smiling from ear to ear as I bite down on that delicious corn! Pardon my pun but I am still grinning as I enjoy the juicy and sweet cantaloupe that I purchased on Tuesday. My thanks to the farmers who have weathered the heat wave so that I can enjoy their bounty in my cool home. :)

The market this Saturday promises even more goodies for all of us to enjoy! The heirloom tomatoes and peppers are starting to show up and so are those juicy watermelons! And, our farmers are creating some of the most spectacular jams, jellies and butters too! You'll find good old grape jelly alongside peach jam, blackberry jam, raspberry jam, mixed berry jam and even a spicy tomato jam! And, who can resist apple butter..not me.

But, we'll have so much more this Saturday, including...

CORN

TOMATOES

GREEN BEANS

CUCUMBERS

PEPPERS

ONIONS

POTATOES

SQUASH

ZUCCHINI

EGGPLANT

OKRA

GREENS

Wow, what a surprise today!

I realize that the activities downtown for the 4th of July brought many customers that we normally would not have seen at our Bluegrass Farmers' Market and we are all very appreciative that you decided to come visit our small, friendly and 100% homegrown/produced market. It was so nice to see many friends that most of us hadn't seen for awhile. And, we hope that now that you know where we are, that you will visit again.

The Bluegrass Farmers' Market is not like the Lexington Farmers' Market and we make no excuses for that nor we do aspire to be like them. We are not exactly what you would call a “gathering” place....but we are a great place to meet your friends and shop! We don't have all of the fancy stuff, the musicians (although a few of us have been known to bust out in song a few times) and plenty of prepared food to enjoy. We want you to take our local and seasonal bounty and discover how good it really is! We are just a group of honest, hard working farmers and producers who gathered because we felt like a farmers market should be just that...made up of real farmers, not a mix of people who buy, resell and only some actual farmers. Our rules are very strict and believe me, we make sure everyone abides by them! We want our customers to know that when they walk up to a booth that they are talking to the person who grew, raised, baked or made everything that you see! Except for the few times when a farmer has another obligation and one of the other members brings his or her goodies to the market...we don't want our customers to miss out for even a day, so we help each other out. :)

We are working very hard to become “the” place to shop for honest to gosh local fare! We can guarantee it!

So, our thanks to all of you for joining us today and we hope to see you again. You are always most welcome to our little bit of what we think a true farmers market should be...farmers, friendly faces and homegrown goodness!

By the way, next Saturday is our annual Customer Appreciation Day and we'll have bunches of goodies that our farmers and producers will giving away...like ASH free beef, herb seasoning baskets, veggies galore, jams, honey, tropical plants, homemade soaps, flowers and even “market bucks” that you can spend anywhere in the market! Heck, even the kids get to enjoy our special day...make sure they get a sticker and create a market visor with their very own selection of fruits and veggies to decorate it!

Celebrate Our Indepence At The Bluegrass Farmers' Market!

It's the 4th of July weekend and certainly a time to celebrate the reason it's a holiday. The 4th is also known as Independence Day in commemoration of the the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

I can't think of a more independent group of people than American farmers. They work the soil, they put their sweat and equity into making sure that the people of our United States of America get to enjoy the wholesome goodness that their hours of dedication provide. So, on this Independence Day weekend, we celebrate the privilege of being able to provide only the very best locally grown fruits and vegetables. Come join us in our celebration of America...our red, white and blue pride will be be in abundance!

When I say red, white and blue, I really mean it! Yup, we will have red, white and blue taters available! Think about a patriotic potato salad to go with those all American ASH free beef burgers! Nothing is more “4th of July” than fresh from the garden berries and we'll have plenty of red raspberries and blueberries! Don't forget those blackberries, although I have no idea why they call them blackberries because they certainly aren't black in color...just ask my stained purple fingers from last week's harvest!

The 4th of July is traditionally celebrated with fireworks, parades and picnics with friends and family. Wow, does the Bluegrass Farmer's Market ever have the perfect fix'ins for that picnic table!
