It's that time in the bluegrass...students are back in school and the pools will soon be closed in anticipation of the cooler weather to come. For some reason many folks think that this means the farmers market will be closing soon. Both of our market locations will be open through October 25th this year!
The really great news is there is still time to enjoy all of the summer goodness that the Bluegrass Farmers' Market can offer! We still have plenty of tomatoes, corn, peppers, zucchini, green beans and melons. Now is the time to start thinking about freezing or canning that homegrown goodness so that you can enjoy it all winter long. By the way, watermelon freezes beautifully...so does cantaloupe. Think about using those wonderful chunks of fruit in place of ice cubes in your holiday punch bowl!
Geez, I am getting way ahead of myself with the cool weather stuff but I just want to remind everyone that summer fruits and vegetables are still plentiful even though a new school year usually signals fall weather. We still have a few more weeks until we'll start seeing the fall goodness arrive...think pumpkins, mums and winter squash!
