We've got the wood in...most of the gardens have been put to sleep...and things are picked up. Now is the time I'm thinking of which ram will go in with which ewes. I had a real nice Cheviot cross ram born this past spring that I just couldn't make myself sell...he's such a sweet guy that always comes over for a scratch behind the ears. Do you think he knew what he was doing when he became such a pet?! My ram I bought last year has been ready to go in with girls for the past month...he stands and looks longingly across the driveway as the girls parade by. He's such a interesting looking fellow for a Cheviot. He's black with tan points and a badger face, although both his parents were white.
I've got 7 ewes that can be bred this year and there were two ewe lambs that were born this year that I will separate out until breeding is over. One ewe lamb will definitely stay but one should go. She's a CheviotXJacob/Romney cross out of my older ewe and the ram above. The rams will be going in with the ewes in a couple of weeks. I don't like them born too early when it's still cold.
The chickens should also be starting to lay eggs soon. I'm looking forward to having fresh eggs for breakfast!
