Waco's Local Food Movement in full swing

Waco's Local Sustainable Food Movement started early Spring 2010 in hopes of finally getting local foods to Waco.

After some getting-used to the program that was set up to have vendors sell to consumers, now having over 700 Locavores, Waco's Local Food Movement is in full swing.

Consumers and citizens of the community support our local farmers while getting the freshest, most delicious and chemical free and organically raised foods.

Waco's Local Farmers Food Festivals are held biweekly, year-round and vendors are not charged any set-up/booth fee....the festivals last only 2 hours and an influx of hundreds of people make it worth to come selling in Waco.

Why 2 hours you wonder? Well, Waco's Health department said that the perishable food vendors (such as meats, eggs, cheeses, milk, yogurts etc) cant sell to consumers unless there is a hot water sink and restroom next to the vendors....so, i came up with a pre-ordering system: consumers pre-order foods from vendors and they come down here for only 2 hours to deliver these orders....this worked out great with the Health department and after some getting used to, everyone is happy to finally have local foods in Waco.

Waco's Local Food Movement also started a new project: GROW YOUR OWN FOOD, GROW YOUR FREEDOM...each citizen that is interested in the program, is being taught how to grow their own organic veggies in their backyards....in containers, in raised beds and more

We are all proud to be part of the Local Sustainable Food Movement that is taking place everywhere in the country and hope more people will be joining this movement.

God Bless
