WHITE FOODS
Good thing I'm not colored blind, now I am being told to watch the color of food I eat!
Maybe I'm just a late bloomer and hadn't noticed before, but it seems like lately I'm seeing a lot on white foods.
What Is White Food? Well, according to everything I've managed to find on the internet,
White food generally refers to foods that are white in color (oh!) and that have been processed and refined, like flour, rice, pasta, bread, crackers, cereal, and simple sugars like table sugar and starchy foods such as potatoes and also they threw in high-fructose corn syrup.
Some of the sites didn't just stop there, many are including goodies such as bagels, white bread, cake, cereal, cookies, crackers, croissants, bakery goods, flour tortillas, macaroni/noodles/pasta, white flour pancakes, white flour pastry, pie, waffles, and white rice. fruits and fruit juices, ice cream, potato chips, potatoes, pretzels, rice, salt, sugar. Also cauliflower, white dairy products such as cottage cheese, milk, yogurt, ice cream, and beverages sweetened with sugar or high-fructose corn syrup.
What's left? Evidently these people have never made or eaten homemade bread straight from the oven. Nor do they go to picnics and barbecues where potato salad, (don't forget the potato chips!) macaroni or pasta salad, tortillas loaded with some yummy mixture, cottage cheese, ice cream, delicious homemade pies and cakes, milk and yogurt are part of the fare.
I can understand no soda, but I would have a problem with no ice tea or lemonade.
However, the author didn't knock chicken or seafood, in fact, he/she was saying we should eat meat three times a week.
They do admit however, the diet truth is that carbohydrates are essential for health and are your body’s preferred form of fuel. We can’t live without them -- but we'd be healthier if we got most of our carbohydrates from "smart carbs" like fruits, vegetables, legumes, low-fat dairy, and whole grains. That's what they are saying. However, first they are knocking fruits and many veggies and then they are not. Which is it? And, low fat , no fat anything is a whole lot less healthier for us then the real stuff. They attack fruits and fruit juices, certain vegetables and tell us to go to the local grocery store and buy ourselves meat and fish three times a week.
I'm not an advocate of eating junk food or food loaded with sugar and senseless calories, ask my kids.
However, people can go too far with what we should and should not eat. I think it's a no brainier that eating fruits, vegetables, dairy and meat from the farmers themselves are the best way to go. Something else is good for all of us as well... Getting together with our friends and loved ones and sharing a meal at a picnic or a barbecue, music, dancing, swimming are all the best way to keep ourselves healthy and happy!
