Available vegetables and fruits

I realize it has been quite a while since I last blogged. I apologize. The last week or so has been a grateful relief. A lot of the evgetables were doing poorly due to the lack of rain. All that has changed in the span of about a week and a half. Things that were being harevsted every few days are having to be done everyday to make room for new growth. What a wonderful sight it is to see all this taking place.

Below you will find a list of what we have available as far as vegetables and fruits. As I stated in our listing: " Please be patient . All of the vegetables and fruits we have listed will be a available for sale at one time or another. Please keep checking back."

Tomatos

Banana peppers

Jalepenos

Hybrid eggplant ( smaller version of normal size, but very tasty)

Georgia collards

Cantelope

Yellow summer squash

Hybrid zucchini ( these grow large, but still have all moistness )

Slicing and pickling cucumbers

Rain sweet rain

The title says it all. We finally received some rain yesterday evening and some more today. What a relief from all the hot weather we have ben experiencing. Don't get me wrong I love the hot weather of summer , but enough is enough . It's not even June yet and 90ish seems to be the norm lately. That took care of my watering for a day or so.LOL. I truly enjoy watering the vegetables; especially the tomatos which when the water hits them takes me back to my childhood in Florida. I remember my family going out in the fields to pick bushels full. My grandmother always had them and other vegetables canned up and ready for anything. It's amazing how just the smell of the plants can bring back all those great memories. I; like her; will be trying my hand at canning this year and the rest will go in the freezer so we want for nothing this winter. I can't wait to get started . If you had told me a few years ago that I would be this excited about gardening ; I probably would have laughed at the comment. But now that I have had the chance to really dig my hands in and get this thing going; I can't see myself doing anything else.

Well , that's all for today. Guess I need to get out and enjoy this beautiful weather while I can. The dog days of summer are on the way. Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend and don't forget to visit our website to register for $15.00 in fresh produce to be given away.

                 Happy Memorial Day,

New vegetables off the vine today

Well so much for the blogging everyday. I started this entry earlier and was almost ready to post it when our adorable set of four kittens decided they just had to be all over the keyboard and mouse at the same time I was using it. So much for that entry. LOL.

The weather this week has treated us well.  Other than the fact that I wish we would get some rain so I didn't have to water by hand so much ; it has been wonderful. I am actually seeing the results of all the hard work we have put into this garden. More slicing cucumbers came yesterday ; some  pickling cucumbers and zucchini today and I even was able to harvest some of the beautiful collards I have been anxiously waiting on. I was born in the North, but have been in the South most of my life. I guess this is the reason I was so ready to get those collards in the pot. I have blackeye peas and okra  growing in the garden as well. I guess all I will need when I am able to harvest those vegetables  is a big glass of sweet tea, some fresh cornbread and another pot of my collards.

Welll the kittens are at it again so I will have to cut this entry short. I will definitely have to learn how to do this while they are napping in the afternoon. Please check out our website and while you are there register for a chance to win $15.00 in fresh produce. Hope to see ya'll soon.

Cucumbers

I am new to this blogging thing so everyone please bear with me. I will try to post something new about the garden and produce everyday so keep checking back with us.

I just wanted to let the readers know that our slicing cucumbers are really growing well. The name of the cucumber itself is called "Sweet Slice" and it truly lives up it's name. We started these from seed earlier this year and they have been growing at a steady pace every since. I check the plants everyday for blossoms and tie them up on the trellis so we can save as much room as possible for other types of vegetables. It seems that with enough water these cucumbers will grow at least a inch each day or so. When they reach the appoximate length they are supposed to then they just get bigger around. The first one I picked was on Sunday and it is about three inches around and about 8 inches long. I have never in my life seen this large a cucumber; I swear!

Now I know what some of ya'll are thinking. "She waited that long to pick the fruit so it has got to be dry and inedible". That is what I thought would happen as well. But to my surprise it didn't taste that way at all. Sweet and almost juicy are the words that come to mind when I tasted that first slice. I was amazed to say the least !

I hope that everyone has enjoyed reading this first blog and willl come back again soon.
