The Williamsburg Farmers Market is Open and Relocated this Weekend!

The Williamsburg Farmers Market will set up on the east side of Henry Street in front of the Book Store. Shop before attending An Occasion for the Arts with over 30 watermen, bakers and producers of meats, seafood, fall vegetables, ethnic foods, cheeses and apples.  Full season open through October 29.
 
 

Experience Williamsburg's Art Month at the Williamsburg Farmers Market 9/17/11

This Century Art Gallery will have artists painting Plein Air in the Market as part of Williamsburg’s Art Month. Berret’s Seafood Restaurant will be at the Chefs Tent at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m., The Master Gardeners will attend, and Ron Fetner will perform 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.. Apples, pasta, cut flowers, cheese, bread, honey, artisan chocolate, lamb, pork and potted plants are among the many offerings at the Williamsburg Farmers Market.

Support the farmers market and its farmers, watermen and bakers during Farmers Market Week. The Williamsburg Farmers Market is the place to shop for apples, peaches, watermelons, pork, seafood, herbs, and lots of vegetables.  Ball Canning Demonstration will be presented by Two Girls & a Hammer at Chefs Tent and Thomas DeRose will perform 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

 
 

Vegetable & Buckwheat Pasta Salad Recipe

Berret's Seafood Restaurant demonstrated this recipe at the Williamsburg Farmers Market Chef Tent on May 7, 2011.

INGREDIENTS:

VEGETABLE SALAD:

1/2 Lb Oyster Mushrooms

1 Bunch (approx. 12 stalks) Asparagus

1 Cup Roasted Virginia Peanuts

1/2 White Onion, julienned

1/2 Cup Rice Wine Vinegar

2 Tbsp Local Honey

1 Tbsp Red Pepper Flakes

1 Tbsp Soy Sauce

 

PASTA:

1 Lb Buckwheat Noodles

1 Bunch Green Onions, trimmed and cut on the bias

1 Cup Crumbled Feta Cheese

 

DIRECTIONS:

VEGETABLE SALAD:

Clean oyster mushrooms and lightly chop.

Clean 1/2 inch off asparagus stalks, then cut in half.

Blanch mushrooms and asparagus in boiling water for 6 minutes.  Place in an ice bath and set aside.

To julienned onion, add vinegar, honey, pepper flakes and soy sauce.

Combine and toss all ingredients.

 

PASTA:

Cook buckwheat noodles al dente in lightly salted and oiled water.  Drain and chill.

Lightly toss noodles with green onions and feta cheese.

Plate 3-4 ounces pasta mixture.  Top with 3 ounces marinated vegetables and serve

Healthy Smoothie Recipes

Berret's Seafood Restaurant demonstrated these recipes at the Williamsburg Farmers Market Chef Tent on May 7, 2011.

 

Energy Smoothie

1 Apple, cut up

1 Tbsp Honey

1 Rounded Tbsp Peanut Butter

1/2 Cup Fat-free Yogurt

1/4 Cup Chocolate Whey Powder

1/2 Cup Fat-free Milk

2-3 Ice Cubes (optional)

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend for 30 seconds. 

Enjoy.

 

Refreshing Smoothie

6 Strawberries

1/2 Cup Blueberries

1/2 Cup Apple Juice

1/2 Apple, cut up

1 Tbsp Honey

1/4 Cup Vanilla Whey Powder

1/4 Cup Wheat Germ or Oatmeal

1/2 Cup Yogurt

2-3 Ice Cubes (optional)

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend for 30 seconds. 

Enjoy.

Herbs, healthy spring vegetables and strawberries will be the focus for National Herb Week and will be the theme of the Master Gardeners and the Herb Society exhibits at the Williamsburg Farmers Market

The Leadership Historic Triangle will bring demonstrations and exhibits on exercise and health for their Fitness Day at the market. 

Bagels & Fraylox will entertain from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. 

Berret’s Seafood Restaurant will open the season at the Chef’s Tent with demonstrations at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

 
 

Holiday Market and Final Market of 2010 at Williamsburg Farmers Market in Merchants Square

The year-end Holiday Market at the Williamsburg Farmers Market will be held on December 11.  Reveille, William & Mary acappella singers, will entertain with festive holiday music.  Look for special holiday vendors with cut trees, branches, berries, doorway decorations, wreaths, gingerbread house kits, baked goods and gift items. All products are natural and produced, grown or harvested locally by the vendors.  Seafood, meats, cheese, and winter produce will also be available. The Market will overflow to both sides of Henry Street to accommodate over 35 guest and regular vendors.

 
 

Williamsburg Farmers Market Holiday Market

Saturday, November 27

8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Over 30 vendors offer wreaths, trees, berries, forced bulbs, baked goods products for gift giving, produce, meat, seafood and more at this special Holiday Market at the Williamsburg Farmers Market in Merchants Square.  So’lach will play holiday favorites from 9:00 – 11:00.  The final market of the season will be held on December 11.

 
 

First Holiday Market of 2010 at Williamsburg Farmers Market in Merchants Square

Saturday, November 20

8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Over 35 vendors will be in attendance at the first Holiday Market of the season offering fall produce, baked goods, meat, seafood, holiday decorations, bulbs, gifts and more.  Be sure to get some fresh pumpkin butter, apple butter and other items for your holiday feasts.  Reveille sings a cappella from 9:00 to 11:00.

Holiday Markets will be held November 20, 27 and December 11.

 
 

Children's Day at the Williamsburg Farmers Market - October 16, 2010

7:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Children’s Day

Children’s Day will feature free activities for kids of all ages at the Williamsburg Farmers Market.  The Chef Tent demonstration will be coordinated by SHIP (School Health Initiative Program).  The recipe of the day will be Marinated Black Bean Salad. 

The Williamsburg Botanical Garden and Girl Scout Troop 1482 will assist children with making corn husk dolls. 

The Williamsburg Youth Orchestra will play from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. 

Face painting by Bubbles the Clown will be available. 

Pumpkins, apples, apple cider, peanuts, fish, seafood, baked goods, fresh fall produce, beef and more are sure to please all ages. 

Food purchased at the Market can be donated to a local food kitchen. 

Harvest baskets will be available for purchase at the Market Tent.

 
 

Harvest Basket Day at the Williamsburg Farmers Market - October 9

Harvest Baskets will be for sale at the Williamsburg Farmers Market.  Three different sizes will be available.  Use them for storage, planters, gift baskets, décor and more.  Runaway String Band will play their unique style of bluegrass, old-time and swing music from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. The Virginia Marine Products Board will be at the Chefs Tent preparing freshly-caught seafood.  We don’t know just what seafood it will be yet, because they haven’t caught it yet.  Now that’s fresh!

It’s time for apples, apple cider, pumpkins and other fall produce.  Also find locally grown or produced cut flowers, seafood, soaps, honey, meats and more. Berret's Seafood Restaurant's Chef David McClure will be cooking at the Chefs Tent at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.  Tim Seaman will play from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.  Stop by the Master Naturalists’ exhibit.  The theme will be migration.

Learn to cook Apple Waldorf Salad, Butternut Squash Mashed Potatoes and Pumpkin Bread with Cream Cheese Icing with Jean Monaco of  MARTIN’S at the Chef Tent.  Cooking and sampling begin at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.  Karen Trump will play from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. and The Master Gardeners will be exhibiting drought-tolerant plants.
