How to use our Sun Dried Tomatoes

Sun Dried Tomatoes (All Natural)
One of the things we love to do in the Home Farm Herbery Creativity Center Kitchen is to create our famous Sun Dried Tomatoes and when we do we are left with the best gourmet Sun Dried Tomatoes that have a sweet, distinctive and tangy taste and aroma.

Our sun-dried tomatoes are a great staple to give a quick flavor boost to recipes, but you will need to first reconstitute them.

 Here's how:
Place sun-dried tomatoes in heat-proof bowl.
Completely cover with boiling water.
Let sit for 30 minutes until soft and pliable.
Drain and pat dry.

Reserve the soaking liquid to use in soups and sauces.
Refrigerate and use leftovers within three days or cover with oil and refrigerate and use within two weeks.
To reconstitute in oil, simply cover with a good-grade olive oil for 24 hours before using
Sun-dried tomato oil may be reserved to use in salad.

Just say NO to gene-altered foods

Tomato, Black Krim (100% Heirloom/Non-Hybrid/Non-GMO)

The Black Krim tomato produces high yields of dark reddish/black beefsteak tomatoes. This is a popular and rare heirloom tomato variety from the Black Sea region of Russia.

Amazingly rich in flavor- Skin turns to a reddish black color as it matures - Interior is dark reddish green - Very sweet - Excellent when eaten right off the vine, used for salads or sandwiches - Easy to grow and looks amazing in any culinary dish.

75-80 days to maturity

We got some plants into the ground today.

I planted Glynis’ string bean mix and I set out some Martino’s Roma tomato plants, Emerald Giant peppers plants, Marketmore 76 cucumbers plants, Napoleon Sweet Pepper plants and some Japanese Long Cucumber plants.  After I finished the inside work I was able to get back out at 4 pm and work for another couple of hours and planted a lot of flowers and some new herb beds that you can see on the slide show link.  http://www.kizoa.com/slideshow/d2481432k4613598o1/4212-arlenes-gardens-at-home-farm

Another morning at Home Farm

It was an overcast day today with rain off and on so I started working at 8 am.  I finished the last little bit of the wild flower garden after putting in 400 pounds of top soil and the rest of the perennial wildflower seeds.  I thinned out the Roma tomatoes, the orange Amana tomatoes and some peppers and have over 40 more pots of plants growing.  I started to move planters and birdbaths outside today and by noon I was pooped.
