Royalty Pecan Farms in September

At this time of year, the nuts are fully expanded but not completely filled yet. We’ll continue irrigation around the clock to help fill out the pecan kernels.

During September, we concentrate on preparing everything for the upcoming pecan harvest. That means getting the orchard floor in shape by picking up limbs, grading and smoothing the ground, and mowing the grassy middles one more time if necessary. Then the mowers are cleaned and parked.

We’ll also continue inspecting the pecan harvest equipment and cleaning plant. Harvest equipment is greased and checked for needed repairs. The processing plant is cleaned and the bearings on all conveyers are greased. Also, spray equipment is cleaned and pumps are drained for the winter.
