Farmers' Market Fraud: Are Scammers Ripping You Off?

Planet Green:

NBC Los Angeles' news team decided to do some checking around at local farmer's markets, and paid visits to the farms where the vendors claimed they grew the food they were selling. In some cases, they found fields full of weeds or dry, empty fields. The vendors were selling vegetables and fruit they had bought wholesale, and were selling it at premium prices at local farmer's markets, claiming it was locally grown and organic.

This is genuine journalism and blogging.I have alerted local harvest long time ago to the scammers at the FRAUDULANT green/farmer markets long time ago.Even some have the nerve to be part of the local harvest network and have got a link. Most of them do not have any local farmers .I am one small urban farmer who tried to get a display at local green markets and alweays I was rebuffed and pushed away.I will write another article on the syubject and also will put some link references .Keep the heat on bringing REAL farmers to the Farmer markets and why not after passing the infamous S510 LET us bring farmers to the Capitol and the white house. We had Jefferson and Washington before.Good article.Thank you

SING-IT Tony! Great comment, it is criminal, I know of a few people who sell at farmers markets, they advertise, free range, natural, grass fed blah-Blah-blah, my farm members keep me posted, they have shared horror stories with me about folks who actually buy meats from the slughter plants and local butcher shops, jack up the price and sell it LEGALLY.

Another story was of a person, who sells stuff that she gets from OTHER farmers, and again jacks up the price and sells it illegally. Nevermind the fact that she had nothing to do with growing it, harvesting it or being responsible for cleaning cages, coops, etc.

I don't get to go to too many farmers markets, I am very busy on our farms, as you know it takes most of the day to get things done.

I would like to see some changes and improvements made to Farmers markets across the U.S.A.
