You can get a government grant to grow food. Grants, Loans & Support.
Earlier this year, in response to President Obama's challenge to reinvigorate local food systems, each of USDA's 26 agencies was asked to come forward with programs that can help support this effort...and they did.
It's no surprise that USDA has programs throughout its operations that can assist farmers, help consumers access nutritious foods, and support rural community development. We provide billions of dollars annually doing all this and more. What may be a surprise is that we have programs all across the Department that can cultivate local capacity to strengthen local and regional food systems. We don't need to create a new slate of programs; we need to make sure that the ones we have work better.
In some cases, you may be using approved pesticides, but since they are approved, you may still be able to get Certified Organic or Certified Organic Exempt (C.O. Status, may depend on income reported and/or types of pesticide use reported). Please contact the USDA to get more accurate information. http://www.rurdev.usda.gov/recd_map.html For more program information: http://www.rurdev.usda.gov/rbs/busp/rbeg.htm
We encourage everyone interested to apply and participate in this U.S.D.A. project.
NOTE: Our small green house is not part of a grant or approved pesticide study, we built it ourselves with our member and sustainer support, and only need it to start early seeds. We grow everything "Pesticide-Free" outside in the sunshine and fresh air; this is how our members, family, friends, neighbors and livestock want food grown. As a result, we do lose a bit more produce to the critters, and we bargain for it, so we grow a little extra to supply the critters too, the chickens take care of the little, bugs.
That being said, some tri-city residents and farmers markets participants have chosen this route and they have our support. We continue to encourage folks to grow to their ultimate potential and to help the supply of local, affordable and alternative food supply. They may be millionaires soon! and you can be too (LOL-LOL).
Release Date: 12 June 2009 Genre: Documentary Cast: Michael Pollan, Eric Schlosser Director: Robert Kenner Writer: Robert Kenner Studio: Magnolia Pictures
Plot: An unflattering look inside America's corporate controlled food industry.
People who used to adulterate or lie about food ingredients were jailed - assuming they made it to a trial.
It wasn't unusual in saner times for people who adulterated food to be lynched or at least be on the receiving end of a good riot.
No more.
If you want to make wholesome food in your home kitchen and/or sell to your neighbors you will be subject to so many regulations, it will make your head spin.
On the other hand, if you can buy the right lawyers, lobbyists and politicians, you can package the nutritional equivalent of sawdust, glue and house paint as food and laugh all the way to the bank.
Corporations uber alles.
INSERT FROM RAINBOW RANCH FARMS: Remember folks, you can always buy fresh produce, fruits, vegetables, artisan foods, nuts, beef, pork, eggs, lamb, goat, grapes etc. from a local grower or producer, or grow some of your food yourself, in many cases, it is very rewarding and affordable.

In our final blog on depression we focus on the foundations of depression and how to fight depression at the root. Today many patients are clearly unaware that most medications and doctor endorsed treatments merely aid with covering up symptoms.
For example, if someone is standing on a nail they can either a) step off the nail or b) keep standing on the nail and take an aspirin (or other pain killers/ anti-inflammatories) to deal with the “symptom” of standing on the nail. Standing on the nail comes first, the pain comes second. If we never step on the nail there is never any pain and therefore no need for the aspirin.
The question is, what causes depression so we can avoid it altogether? What comes first? The reason simple cures for depression are never discussed with most patients is that there is very little money in helping people cure themselves.
There is no money to be made off healthy people and there is no money to be made off dead people, the focus of conventional medicine is on the in-between…….people who are not truly alive yet are not yet dead. Conventional medicine traps people in the middle or the “in-between”. Oddly enough North America’s health care system focuses on citizens having a long (drug dependent and expensive) comfortable death and never a long vibrant life.

It is convenient for some of us to make our pet foods, for others it may be time consuming and require special attention.I found that the prices offered by the farms and producers are reasonable here on local harvest and from the product descriptions, they seem to be of high quality and beneficial. Happy shopping!
There are many different types of food co-ops. I have attached a link to a good source of explanation.
Just the first paragraph, for more please click the link.
A food co-op is a collectively owned grocery store. Most frequently, a foodco-op focuses on making natural foods more affordable for co-op members, although other products may be carried as well. There are a number of different styles of foodco-op, but all of them share common values of group management and decision making, social responsibility, and equality. Towns of all sizes have food co-ops ranging from very small to quite large, and it is usually easy to find a foodco-op near you.
