Used historically as a mild sedative and for lung ailments, Blue vervain nourishes the digestive, nervous and respiratory systems. It is especially helpful for nervous tension and used specifically for anxiety and nervous exhaustion that follows long term stress.

Blue Vervain was considered a universal remedy throughout history. Some Native American tribes used Blue Vervain to treat fever, colds, coughs, and lung congestion. The Cherokee used it as a remedy for diarrhea and dysentery. The Chinese used Blue Vervain root to treat malaria. The stalks and leaves were used to treat congestion. The Celtic name for Blue Vervain is “Ferfaen”, which means “to drive away a stone,” -the Celts used it for urinary and gallbladder problems.

Blue Vervain is bitter, and while it stimulates digestion, it can cause vomiting when taken in high doses. Taken in the recommended doses, Blue Vervain is regarded as safe; however, safety in young children, pregnant or nursing women, or those with severe liver or kidney disease is not known.

Caution: Not recommended for use during pregnancy or lactation.
