Spring and Summer Internship Orientation

The Youth Farm - Brooklyn, New York

2014 Spring/Summer Internship Program Youth Farm Interns assist Farmers in a variety of farm tasks: seed sowing and planting, bed preparation, irrigation and weeding, crop management and harvesting, post harvest handling and bouquet making, carpentry, data entry, community outreach and more! Hours: Minimum of 6 hours per week Time: Tuesdays 9am-3pm and/or Thursdays 9-3pm Season: April 29th- December 15th (Shorter internships available for special circumstances, but must be able to commit for at least 10 weeks) Interns are a vital part of our farm! Youth Farm Interns will learn about sustainable agriculture, many aspects of urban farm management, and youth education alongside experienced urban farmers and food justice advocates. By committing 4-8 hours on The Youth Farm between April and December, youâ?™ll have the opportunity to witness the evolution of an organic farm season, from early sowings and transplanting in April, to garlic planting and cover cropping in November and putting the farm to bed in December. By returning to the same farm each week, you can witness the minute changes that unfold, and begin to grasp the skills needed to nurture a healthy, productive farm over a season. Our internship program is designed to be educational and fun, and provide a solid mentorship to those interested in working in urban or rural sustainable agriculture, as well as those who want to volunteer and get their hands dirty helping grow a greener city.
