Burdock is known herbally as an alterative and blood purifier, and it is most commonly used in chronic skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, where it will help the body eliminate toxins and move toward a healthful systemic balance.
Burdock root is somewhat diuretic and diaphoretic, and it is excreted by the kidneys and sweat glands, accounting for its usefulness in skin conditions. Burdock is useful in promoting overall health, especially when used in chronic, longstanding conditions. Burdock fuses the flavors of potato and celery. The roots is used fresh in cooking and most commonly is scrubbed or peeled, chopped and steamed for about 30 minutes or sauteed for about 15 minutes in several changes of cold water before cooking. This will help keep its whole color. The dried root is used in teas.
Burdock is a very tough plant - no pest problems. It grows easily from seed. Annual, start seeds indoor.
