This smooth feeling skin balm can be used to promote healthy skin and soothe cuts, bites, burns, rashes, scars & sprains, strains, and any other inflamed area of the skin.
I have had a long love affair with Calendula, with it's sunny orange flowers and the fresh, crisp smell. The flowers can be used in so many ways to help promote healthy skin. Lavender is grown all over Vashon Island, and the beautiful fields of purple wands waving is such a sight to behold. Lavender adds a wonderful scent, and both herbs have an antibacterial effect making this salve a great one to have on hand for an over all herbal first aid ointment. (pun intended)
I personally hand harvest and infuse the flowers when they are at their peak, and infuse them in olive oil- sometimes together if the timing is right. I make the balms from these infusions in small batches and it brings me back to July every time I open a jar! Shea Butter, Bees' Wax (local when I can get it), and vitamin E are the only other ingredients added. The scent is very faint, and most people who claim they do not like lavender end up liking this balm.
